Account Disconnection Guide

Detailed guide on how to disconnect social media accounts from PostLoudly and completely remove access.

Overview

Disconnecting a social media account from PostLoudly involves two steps: removing the connection on PostLoudly's side and revoking access from the platform's security settings. This guide explains both processes and why both steps are necessary.

Why Two Steps Are Required

When you disconnect an account, PostLoudly can:

  • Delete the access token from our database
  • Remove all stored account data from PostLoudly
  • Stop making API calls to that account

However, the platform (Pinterest, Instagram, etc.) maintains its own record of the authorization. To completely remove PostLoudly from your account, you must also revoke access from the platform's security settings.

Step 1: Disconnect in PostLoudly

Navigate to Accounts

Go to "Accounts" in the dashboard navigation menu to view all your connected accounts.

Find the Account

Locate the account you want to disconnect. You'll see the account name, profile picture, and platform information.

Click Delete/Disconnect

Click the delete/disconnect button (trash icon) next to the account. A confirmation dialog will appear.

Confirm Disconnection

Review the confirmation message and click "Disconnect" to confirm. PostLoudly will immediately:

  • Revoke and delete the access token
  • Remove all account data from PostLoudly
  • Stop all API calls to that account

Step 2: Revoke Access from Platform Settings

After disconnecting in PostLoudly, you'll be redirected to an instructions page. You'll need to manually revoke access from the platform's security settings:

Important

This step is necessary because platforms maintain their own authorization records. Only you can remove the app from your platform account's security settings.

For Pinterest:

  1. Go to Pinterest → Settings → Security
  2. Scroll to "App logins" section
  3. Find "PostLoudly" in the list
  4. Click "Revoke access"

For Instagram:

  1. Go to Instagram → Settings → Security
  2. Find "Apps and Websites" or "Authorized Apps"
  3. Find "PostLoudly" and click "Remove"

For X (Twitter):

  1. Go to X → Settings and Privacy → Security and Account Access
  2. Click "Apps and Sessions"
  3. Find "PostLoudly" and click "Revoke access"

For Facebook:

  1. Go to Facebook → Settings → Security
  2. Click "Apps and Websites"
  3. Find "PostLoudly" and click "Remove"

What Happens After Disconnection

Once you've completed both steps:

  • PostLoudly can no longer access your account
  • All stored account data is removed from PostLoudly
  • The account will no longer appear in your connected accounts list
  • You won't be able to publish to that account from PostLoudly
  • The app will be removed from your platform's authorized apps list

Reconnecting an Account

If you want to reconnect an account after disconnecting:

  1. Go to the Accounts page
  2. Click "Connect Account"
  3. Select the platform you want to reconnect
  4. Follow the authorization process again
  5. Grant the necessary permissions

Reconnecting is the same process as connecting for the first time. You'll need to authorize PostLoudly again through the platform's OAuth flow.

Security Considerations

Why This Process Exists

The two-step disconnection process exists for security and privacy reasons:

  • It ensures you have full control over app access to your accounts
  • It prevents apps from removing themselves without your knowledge
  • It gives you visibility into which apps have access to your accounts
  • It follows OAuth 2.0 best practices for authorization management
