Pinterest Account Setup
Detailed guide specifically for connecting Pinterest accounts to PostLoudly.
Overview
Connecting your Pinterest account to PostLoudly allows you to publish pins, manage boards, and track analytics. This guide walks you through the authorization process and explains the permissions required.
Prerequisites
Before connecting your Pinterest account, make sure you have:
- A Pinterest account (business or personal)
- Access to your Pinterest account (you'll need to log in during the connection process)
- A PostLoudly account (you must be logged in to PostLoudly)
Starting the Connection Process
Step 1: Navigate to Accounts
Go to "Accounts" in the dashboard navigation menu. If you don't have any connected accounts, you'll see an empty state with a "Connect Account" button.
Step 2: Click Connect Account
Click the "Connect Account" button. You'll be taken to the "Connect a Social Media Account" page where you can see all available platforms.
Step 3: Select Pinterest
Click on the Pinterest card or "Connect Pinterest" button. This will initiate the OAuth authorization flow.
Authorization Process
When you click "Connect Pinterest", you'll be redirected to Pinterest's authorization page:
- Pinterest Login: If you're not already logged into Pinterest, you'll be asked to log in
- Authorization Request: Pinterest will show you what PostLoudly is requesting access to
- Review Permissions: Review the permissions being requested (see below for details)
- Authorize: Click "Authorize" or "Allow" to grant access
- Redirect: You'll be redirected back to PostLoudly
Note: Make sure popup blockers are disabled for PostLoudly, as the authorization window may open in a popup.
Required Permissions
PostLoudly requests the following permissions from Pinterest:
boards:read
Allows PostLoudly to read your boards. This is needed to display your boards when creating posts and to fetch board information.
boards:write
Allows PostLoudly to create and manage boards. This enables you to create new boards directly from PostLoudly.
pins:read
Allows PostLoudly to read your pins. This is needed to fetch pin analytics and engagement data.
pins:write
Allows PostLoudly to create pins on your behalf. This is required to publish posts to Pinterest.
user_accounts:read
Allows PostLoudly to read your account information, including profile details and follower count.
All of these permissions are necessary for PostLoudly to function properly. Without them, you won't be able to publish posts, manage boards, or view analytics.
After Successful Authorization
Once you've authorized PostLoudly:
- You'll be redirected back to PostLoudly
- Your Pinterest account will appear in the connected accounts list
- You'll see your profile picture, account name, and follower count
- You can immediately start publishing posts to Pinterest
- You can sync your account to fetch the latest data
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
Authorization Window Not Opening
Solutions:
- Check if popup blockers are enabled and disable them for PostLoudly
- Try using a different browser
- Check your internet connection
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
"Redirect URI Mismatch" Error
This error occurs when the redirect URI doesn't match what's registered with Pinterest. If you see this error, contact support. Make sure you're using the correct PostLoudly URL.
Authorization Fails
Possible causes:
- You didn't complete the authorization on Pinterest
- You denied the permissions
- Network connectivity issues
- Pinterest API is experiencing issues
Try the connection process again. Make sure to click "Authorize" on Pinterest's authorization page.
Account Not Appearing After Authorization
Solutions:
- Refresh the Accounts page
- Check if you're logged into the correct PostLoudly account
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting
- Contact support if the issue persists
Security and Privacy
PostLoudly takes security seriously:
- Access tokens are securely stored and encrypted
- We only request the minimum permissions necessary for functionality
- You can revoke access at any time from Pinterest's security settings
- We follow OAuth 2.0 best practices for secure authorization
- Your Pinterest password is never shared with PostLoudly
