Publishing to Pinterest
Complete guide for publishing posts to Pinterest, including board selection, pin details, and requirements.
Overview
Pinterest is a visual discovery platform where users save and organize ideas. When publishing to Pinterest from PostLoudly, you'll need to select a board, provide a pin title, and optionally add a description and link.
Before You Start
Before you can publish to Pinterest, you need to:
- Connect your Pinterest account to PostLoudly (see Connecting Social Media Accounts)
- Ensure your account has the necessary permissions (boards:read, boards:write, pins:read, pins:write)
- Have at least one board in your Pinterest account (or create one during publishing)
Selecting Your Pinterest Account
When creating a post:
- In the "Select Platforms" section, check the Pinterest checkbox
- Select which Pinterest account you want to publish to (if you have multiple connected)
- A new section will appear below with Pinterest-specific options
Selecting a Board
After selecting your Pinterest account, you'll see a board selection dropdown:
- Existing Boards: All your Pinterest boards will appear in the dropdown. Select the board where you want to save the pin.
- Create New Board: Click "Create New Board" to create a board directly from PostLoudly. Enter a board name and it will be created as a public board.
Note: New boards created from PostLoudly are always public. If you need a secret board, create it directly on Pinterest first, then select it from the dropdown.
Pin Title (Required)
Every Pinterest pin requires a title:
- The title field is required and cannot be left empty
- Enter a descriptive title that clearly describes your pin
- Good titles are specific, keyword-rich, and help users understand what the pin is about
- The title will be used as the post title in PostLoudly as well
Tip: Use clear, descriptive titles that include relevant keywords. This helps your pins be discovered in Pinterest search.
Pin Description (Optional)
You can optionally add a description to your pin:
- Descriptions provide more context about your pin
- They can include additional keywords and information
- Descriptions help users understand what they'll find if they click on your pin
- While optional, descriptions can improve pin performance and discoverability
Pin Link (Optional)
You can add a link to your pin:
- Links direct users to your website, blog post, product page, or other content
- Make sure the link is valid and leads to relevant content
- Links are optional but recommended for driving traffic to your website
- The link should match the content of your pin
Image Requirements
Pinterest has specific requirements for images:
- Format: Images must be in JPEG or PNG format (WebP is automatically converted to PNG)
- Hosting: Images must be hosted at a public URL (not base64 data URLs)
- Size: PostLoudly automatically handles image sizing and conversion
- Quality: Images are optimized for Pinterest's requirements
Note: PostLoudly automatically converts and uploads your images to meet Pinterest's requirements. You don't need to worry about format conversion or hosting.
Publishing Your Pin
Once you've filled in all the Pinterest-specific fields:
- Review your pin title, description, and link
- Verify the board selection is correct
- Check the preview to ensure everything looks good
- Click "Publish Now" to publish immediately, or "Schedule" to set a future date
- Wait for the publishing process to complete
After publishing, your pin will appear on your selected Pinterest board and in your Pinterest feed.
